  • After helping thousands on their career path to success, we have put together answers to common questions about the FDM Academy Program. If you still have questions, please contact our Recruitment Team at [email protected] or 647 693 9301.
What is the FDM Academy Program?

The FDM Academy Program consists of foundation training followed by a specialized training stream, where trainees will learn the skills required to become an FDM Consultant. We have Academies across North America and Europe that provide fast-track skills development to those with a passion for IT. After completing your training you will work on placements on our client sites for at least two years.

What is an IT or Business Consultant?

A Consultant works in partnership with clients on specific projects either as part of an outsourced team or to supplement an existing one. Consultants are relocated to client centres for a contracted amount of time to plan and develop business or technology systems and may also be asked to provide expert advice related to their specialty. Consultancy is a flexible career as projects can range from a few months to years depending on its size. This can lead to opportunities for travel and a variety of challenging and exciting assignments with a range of clients. FDM Consultants are employed by FDM to provide professional business and IT consultancy to our clients.

How do I apply for the FDM Academy Program?

Apply via our online application form. Before applying it is important to check our suitability criteria.

    What happens next?

If your application is suitable we will conduct a short telephone interview with you. If you are successful, we will invite you to an assessment day at our Academy training centers in Toronto. If you pass the assessment day, we will offer you a place in our FDM Academy Program.

Is it essential for me to have an IT degree?

We accept a range of related degrees such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering and Electronics. Business, Economics and related degrees are also considered, especially for our Project Management/Application Support stream.

Can I do my training part-time or at home?

The Toronto Academy does not offer part-time or flexible training. The training is paid and takes place during regular business hours, from 9 am – 5:30 pm at an FDM training facility.

    What training will I receive?

All trainees complete the initial foundation training before beginning their respective specialized training streams – Software Development, Project Management/Application Support, Software Testing, or Murex.

What if I already have IT accreditations or qualifications that FDM offers?

This puts you at an advantage; however you would still need to attend the training for that module or complete an exam in order to demonstrate these competencies so that we can confidently recommend you to our clients.

Will I have to pay for my training?

You become an FDM employee from day 1 and will be paid throughout the duration of your training, which is fully funded by FDM in exchange for your commitment to work with us as a Consultant for a minimum of two years.

What training streams are offered at each FDM training Academy?

Toronto: Development, Project Management/Application Support, Software Testing, MX.3 Production Support

New York City: Development, Project Management/Application Support, Software Testing, MX.3 Production Support, Data and Operational Analysis

Is the FDM Academy Program the same in each location?

What happens after I complete my training?

After you successfully complete your training you will be available for client roles. Once selected for placement, you start a two-year commitment with FDM as an IT Consultant. During these two years, you could be placed on one or more of our client sites.

Where will I be working following the completion of my training?

We have opportunities across North America. For those who train at our Toronto Academy, it is required that you are geographically flexible for placements throughout Canada. Currently, FDM Consultants have primarily taken on exciting opportunities with our clients located in Toronto and Montreal.

What companies will I be working with?

Take a look at our client list to see where you could be working. You may end up working at the same place for the whole two years, or you may be placed on various client sites throughout that time.

When will I be paid a salary?

You will become a paid employee with FDM on your first day of training in our Careers Program.

What happens at the end of the two years?

You have a number of options to progress your career further within the IT sector. You will still be an FDM employee working for an award-winning company. However, you are no longer contractually bound to remain with the company and can pursue other avenues if you prefer, such as transitioning into permanent employment with a client you have been placed with. FDM continues to provide our Senior Consultants with demanding and fulfilling technical placements. They also have the option of pursuing roles internally. No matter how you choose to progress your IT career, you will have two years of excellent IT experience gained through the highly reputable FDM Academy Program.
