Today, 8th March, people across the globe will be celebrating International Women’s Day. The FDM community will be hosting various events and celebrations in line with our commitment to championing diversity and women in IT year round.
Chief Operating Officer Sheila Flavell explains the importance of gender equality and diversity within her workforce and how FDM has achieved our strong diversity statistics.
Today we’re being encouraged to be bold for change! Change to see women and men treated equally.
At FDM Group, this is something that is part of our DNA. We are more interested in your potential than your gender, background or ethnicity.
As a business, we have created a culture where inclusivity is the norm. It is one of our values and we embrace the differences that make us stronger as a whole. We don’t have quotas or diversity recruitment targets, because we don’t need them – being diverse is quite simply part of who we are.
As a result of this, we have circa 50 per cent of our senior management team and 26 per cent of our overall workforce are female, compared to 17 per cent in the IT industry.
While we continue to strive to increase female representation in business and technology and help others to do this, we would like to take a moment today and celebrate our success to date.
There are many, many people in FDM who are passionate about this and today, we’ve selected 36 individuals from across the globe who we’re calling “Agents of Change”. They all work towards supporting our culture and also the bigger picture – raising awareness and creating change among different audiences to drive greater inclusivity and diversity in IT.
I’d like to say a huge thank you to all our employees who help us in our work to drive diversity. We’re all FDM Agents of Change so please remember to be bold for change and continue to help others in pursuit of their careers in tech, no matter what their background, gender or ethnicity.
FDM’s commitment to diversity can be seen through the variety and quantity of events, initiatives as well as awards won in this space.
FDM being bold for change:
- We signed the CEO Statement of Support for the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles (UNWEP)
- Think, Act Report (TAR) initiative supporting the governments campaign to increase transparency around gender employment issues
- The FDM Getting Back to Business Programme helps women re-join the workforce following a career break. The programme aims to increase the number of women in middle and senior IT roles by retraining and supporting women who left the workforce
- Headline sponsor for the FDM everywoman in Technology Awards for the last five years
International Women’s Day is just one day where we highlight those who are making a difference, but we all need to be Agents of Change every day of the year.
