Social media is becoming an increasingly important element of many firms’ marketing efforts. With a reach extending to global markets, it is the new tool for effective business marketing and sales. FDM is following the trend by utilising social media tools to engage and connect with clients as well as to assist with recruitment. Social networking, in particular facebook and LinkedIn, have become a key element in our marketing and public relations strategy. According to Clicky Media, social networking now accounts for 11% of all time spent online, with Facebook recently announcing that they have now reached over 400 million users worldwide (Social Media Statistics, February 2010).
Social networking continues to support our recruitment initiatives throughout the UK, Europe and the USA. Approximately 96% of graduates are members of a social network. These sites have granted us the opportunity to interact with candidates, answer their questions and build a relationship with them before they apply. Furthermore, it has allowed candidates to recommend friends to the Academy programme with ease (referrals being our second largest recruitment source). Becoming more engaged in social networking has proved to be increasingly successful. The FDM facebook page now has over 400 members, in contrast to 81 members last year. When searching for employment and work groups, FDM generally features on the first page, and a result of this, we have recruited 3 trainees into the FDM Academy.
Social networking has given FDM the opportunity to strengthen our connections with clients and potential employees, directly contributing towards our growth and success.
