On Wednesday 18th March a group of London Java trainees were given the profound privilege of meeting the founder of the programme they are studying – James A. Gosling, A.KA ‘The Father of Java.’ Lee Ballancore and some of FDM’s future Java Programmers heard James give an hour-long seminar at the Sun Microsystems office in London.
Born in 1955 in Canada, James was credited as the inventor of Java in 1991, having done the original design and implementing its original compiler and virtual machine, and has since worked with Sun Microsystems. Two Mounties-to-be lucky enough to attend the event, were Andrew Koulle and Stuart Miller who we managed to catch up with afterwards.
Have you enjoyed your day?
Andrew: Yes it was a good insight into the topics we are studying and an honour to meet the ‘father of Java’
Stuart: It was really interesting to meet James, the man who invented the programme we are studying, a really good experience.
How does it make you feel about your career in Java development?
Andrew: It makes me feel very positive about the future, and the information about what James thought about the future of Java was important to know in terms of how our careers may progress.
What was the best part about the day?
Andrew: I found the overview of the industry very informative and what James said about the latest Java development. Most of all though I thought the question part of the seminar was the most interesting.
Stuart: I agree the question and answer section at the end was the most interesting
