  • How to Make the Most of Your LinkedIn Profile

Written by Sarah Miller, Digital Content Coordinator | 13 March, 2017How to Make the Most of Your LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn is the original professional social networking site and with over 300 million active users, it is a key tool for many job searchers. We have been looking at what you can do to make the most out of your LinkedIn profile and make it an effective part of your job hunt.

    1. Keep it up-to-date

It’s easy to forget about your LinkedIn profile when you happily have a job and only turn to it when you start looking for your next move but you could be missing out on great opportunities as recruiters don’t get to see your current experience and up-to-date CV. Remember to give your profile regular TLC and keep your network up-to-date with all your achievements. Plus it’s much easier to remember achievements as they happen rather than a year down the line.

      1. Personalise your headline and url

The URL is one of the first thing potential recruiters, employers or connections see when they visit your profile is your headline, so make sure it reflects your personal and professional brand. Including keywords can attract attention and help your profile be found by the LinkedIn search function.

        1. Make use of the summary section

This is your opportunity to show off your achievements and passions; highlight your current projects and keep your profile fresh.

          1. Make the most out of LinkedIn groups

By joining LinkedIn groups matching your desired industry and role you are able to expand your network with likeminded people. Many organisations post their job ads into relevant groups giving you the inside track to the most up-to-date roles. By actively participating in these groups you also make your name known as an engaged and insightful candidate to recruiters and potential employers, some of whom may approach you when a role become available.

            1. Utilise the LinkedIn job search feature

LinkedIn hosts its own job boards and boasts 50 per cent of the world’s hires. Remember to set up your industry, role and location preference to get notifications when new jobs are posted.
