The lack of women in IT has been an ongoing issue for many years; currently, only 17% of IT professionals in the UK are women. FDM is dedicated to recruiting more female candidates and aims to support its female employees and help them to progress in a male dominated industry.
FDM’s Commitment To Women In IT
As a leading IT employer, boasting a strong female presence on its management team, FDM is committed to encouraging more women to pursue a career in IT. As a company we recently demonstrated our commitment to gender equality by signing the UKRC CEO Charter.
FDM Female Champions act as role models to women both internally and externally, and are on hand to offer mentorship and advice to employees at all levels. They offer guidance and support to internal staff and organise external networking sessions and ‘Women in IT’ events that are open to all.
100 Women to Watch (Cranfield School of Management's Female FTSE Report)
FDM's Chief Operating Officer, Sheila Flavell, has been featured in Cranfield School of Management's prestigious '100 Women to Watch' list, which aims to encourage a sustained board, media and government focus on accelerating the representation of women in executive and non-executive roles. Sheila joins a number of women who are currently on the executive committees of FTSE listed companies and other major financial institutions.

United Nations Women's Empowerment Principles
FDM has signed the CEO Statement of Support for the United Nations Women's Empowerment Principles (UNWEP), sealing its commitment to promoting gender diversity in the workplace and wider business community.
The UNWEP is a partnership initiative between UN Women and UN Global Compact and aims to empower women to participate fully in economic life across all sectors and throughout all levels of economic activity.
Think, Act, Report Initiative
FDM has voluntarily joined the Think, Act, Report (T.A.R) initiative, which is a government campaign to drive greater transparency on gender employment issues. FDM is proud to be supporting the government through this initiative and will continue to champion women in IT worldwide.
Women In IT – Events
To directly benefit female graduates, undergraduates and other women seeking to break into the IT industry, FDM hosts periodic ‘Women in IT Advantage Sessions.' These sessions include representatives from key organisations who champion women, such as UKRC South East Hub Manager Veronica Benson.
Speaking at our first event, Benson said, “It’s great to see FDM Group taking positive action to attract more women into the IT industry. Holding an introductory session aimed at women is a great way of getting the message across that the IT industry offers great career opportunities for everyone.”
