    Tom's Story - Data Analyst

    Name: Thomas Page

Studying:  Mathematics MMath at Brunel University

What I have gained from this experience:

Working with FDM as a Data Analyst has been a real eye-opener. Working in a busy, thriving environment at London Bridge is fantastic, there is always something new to do every day.

    Some of my responsibilities include:

    • Providing reports for my team and the rest of the internal FDM staff
    • Maintaining regularly used reports to check the correct numbers are being shown
    • Attending various careers fairs to meet students and graduates

The best part about my placement at FDM is developing and contributing to real company processes and projects. For example, every Monday morning I report statistics of our assessment centres and starters on our Graduate Programme. These figures are then presented to the managing directors to support important business decisions.

I would definitely recommend a placement with FDM, the skills you will learn and the people you will meet will be invaluable and the experience will give you a real edge against other graduates when looking for jobs after graduation.

    Chris's story - Finance Assistant

    Name: Chris Stone

Studying: BSc in Business and Management at the University of Sussex

What I have gained from this experience:

As a finance assistant in the management accounts team I was involved in many projects, which gave me a real understanding of finance at a fundamental level. The most important thing I have learned at FDM is a comprehensive understanding of the debit and credit system and its practical applications.

Based on the successes during my placement year at FDM I received an award for “The most positive learning experience on a professional placement year”. This is awarded from the University of Sussex, where I am currently in the process of completing my BSc in Business and Management.

The placement year gave me an opportunity to hone my skills, both professionally and personally. Going into my third year at university, I feel much more confident both on a professional and academic level. The knowledge and skills I gained at FDM has given me increased motivation and an understanding of a uniquely positioned business.

I am now back at university for my final year and the experiences I gained at FDM have been of great use, especially in my strategy module. My time at FDM has also inspired me to write my dissertation in which I am conducting academic research on one of FDM’s clients, directly related to FDM’s service offerings.

Jenny's story - Recruitment, Marketing and Events Assistant

    Name: Jenny Barnes

Studying: Theatre and Performance at the University of Leeds

What I have gained from this experience:

The best aspect of working for FDM is the endless opportunities the company provides; if I want to develop my presentation skills or attend particular careers fairs then that option is readily available for me. Furthermore, the open communication and welcoming nature of the company allows me to continuously speak to managers and colleagues about my progression and experiences within FDM. The ‘work hard, play hard’ culture of the company is embedded in everyday life and is a great motivational factor.

    My main responsibilities include:

    • Facilitating assessment centres and recording the results to send out to the recruitment team
    • Attending graduate and placement career fairs to help raise FDM’s brand awareness and the opportunities they have to offer
    • Creating marketing materials and using social media to help promote FDM
    • Assisting with FDM events involving clients, staff and FDM consultants
