A Double Women in IT Win

On January 31st at the Grosvenor House in London, Information Age hosted the fourth annual Women in IT Awards. Recognising women’s achievements throughout the technology industry, the awards set out to inspire innovation and promote positive and progressive action towards greater workforce diversity in the industry.

FDM was lucky enough to be finalists in three categories:

  • FDM Group was up for Employer of the Year
  • Mazvita Javangwe, an FDM Consultant was up for Graduate of the Year
  • Sheila Flavell, FDM’s COO was up for Woman of the Year

The evening hosted companies by the likes of JP. Morgan, IBM, PwC and Deloitte, so we were ecstatic to come away winning both Employer of the Year and our very own Sheila Flavell winning Woman of the Year.

FDM’s CEO Rod Flavell, after collecting the Employer of Year Award, commented, “We take pride in making a positive contribution to the industry, working hard to encourage and promote diversity in our workplace. For us, this is not just the ‘right’ thing to do; it is also the ‘smart’ thing to do for our thriving modern business.”

This award reflects our commitment to increasing gender diversity. Currently FDM’s workforce is 28% female and circa 50% of senior management are female. The award has only spurred the company on to work even harder towards a more gender-balanced workforce.

FDM’s second award of the evening went to COO Sheila Flavell, who won Woman of the Year, which recognised her leadership and achievements of IT excellence. This award demonstrated how much of a role model and how respected she is in the eyes of many women and men within the technology industry. She said, This is a great honour and a testament to the people I work alongside at FDM Group. The future for women in tech has never been brighter, organisations are now realising the value of having more balanced workforce and the value that women can bring into the tech space.”
