After graduating from the University of Northampton with a BSc in Computing, I trained on the Application Support stream at FDM’s London Academy. I chose to join the FDM Graduate programme having been introduced to FDM by my university Project Supervisor and hearing about the career paths of Northampton Alumni within FDM. I was lucky enough to meet an FDM representative at my university’s careers fair and participate in a mock entry test. This gave me the information and confidence I needed to apply and be successful on the graduate programme.
During training I had the opportunity to meet people with different backgrounds, many of whom I am still in good contact with. My training lasted three months after which I had the chance to work in Zurich.
After successfully completing the interview process, which took about two weeks, I was placed at UBS Zurich. I have been with UBS ever since, working in the FX Production Support Team supporting critical applications that are used by both UBS and external clients. Working on the trade floor is exciting as there is always something going on. The busy environment has helped me develop not only my IT skills but also my business knowledge.
My experience as an IT Consultant with FDM has been a very positive one. As well as the friends I made during training, the wider FDM community has continued to provide me with a strong support network whilst out on site. The periodic events and meet ups organised by FDM here in Zurich have also been great. The annual Consultant Party gives us the opportunity to meet other FDMers as well as senior management.
Having completed my two year contract with FDM I am now moving into an internal role with UBS Zurich. I am looking forward to developing further in the ever evolving financial markets.
