Having graduated from Stafford University with a BSc Biomedical Science, Simran joined FDM’s Graduate Programme on the then production support stream. She was initially attracted to the programme because it bridged the gap between the business and technical aspects of IT. This gave her the ability to utilise analytical skills and gain exposure to a range of opportunities with FDM’s large blue chip client base.
After successfully completing training in our London Academy, Simran was placed at Worldpay in the IT service operations department. During this placement she had the opportunity to work in a wide range of roles and departments including
- Asset and Configuration Management
- Change Management
- Major Incident Management
- Problem Management
“My favourite part of my placement was the roles I undertook in Major Incident Management and I was able to get exposure to all different areas of the business, working with and driving the support and development teams to restore service, determine root causes and prevent a reoccurrence of issues. I enjoyed working in such a fast paced pressurised environment where I was continuously challenged with new incidents. From network outages to service failures, I got to manage the teams to restore service as soon as possible whilst communicating with all the relevant stakeholders and merchants of the business.”
With this wealth of experience and under the guidance of FDM mentor Jonathan Young, Simran has recently returned in-house to take up position as the Head of IT Service Management. IT Service Management encompasses a wide variety of roles across the IT sector especially as the economy becomes increasingly digitally-focused.
