Many of the 20,000 people who leave the Forces each year experience difficulty in articulating the skills, expertise, leadership and gravitas gained from Service life to future employers. Without a level of commercial experience and relevant training, it is extremely difficult to get a foot in the door when starting life after the Forces. Many employers are not fully aware of the transferable skills from military life, and may view those in transition as a risk as they have never worked in the commercial sector.
When employing ex-Forces personnel, it is crucial to understand the unique life experiences and qualities they bring to the commercial world, and how these translate into a different environment. The Ex-Forces Programme is run by a team who have extensive military experience and are able to recognise these qualities and attributes to best place ex-Forces personnel into roles where they will excel within FDM and our client base.
All FDM Ex-Forces Consultants undertake a training programme tailored to their role preparing them for life on site. Courses cover professional skills development, exposure to the commercial sector and specific training in preparation to be a Project Manager, Business Analyst, Data and Operational Analyst, Tester, Developer or for a role in Production Support.
FDM launched its dedicated Ex-Forces Programme in January 2014, and has since signed the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant, developed a partnership with BFRS, worked closely with CTP and continue to hold an Insight Day on the first Tuesday of each month at our Academy in London for all Service leavers interest in pursuing a career in IT or business. Most importantly, we have 100 FDM Ex-Forces Consultants who are now on site with a variety of our clients including Barclays, HSBC, Nationwide Building Society, UBS, National Grid, British Airways and Save the Children, whom we provide continuous support to whilst on-site.
