I am currently responsible for ensuring the bank is in line with current Anti-Money Laundering procedures through transaction monitoring, threat detection and the analysis of customer data. From reviewing high cash deposits to periodic reviews on politicians, each day brings a new challenge which allows me to adapt my skills to what is required at the time and constantly stay engaged.

I really enjoy the variety of projects I get to work on on-site. I am also given the time to focus on my own professional development and take charge of my future. I currently run the PowerBI training at the company for users wanting to use this technology in their roles and it feels great to have this responsibility.

Laura Battell

While on-site I have been working on a project for Network Rail with another developer. Straight away I was able to develop, liaise with the SMEs and see a robot in a live system. As this project had three robots but only two developers, I also got to take over responsibility for one of these robots while it was successfully moved into the live system.

Graduate Careers FAQ

Graduate programmes are a type of entry-level job, designed for university graduates looking to get a foot in the door in their dream careers, without previous work experience in their chosen field. Typically, graduate programmes, or schemes, will include a training period followed by a work placement, or both simultaneously.

Graduate schemes can be highly competitive with just a few vacancies per 100+ applicants, especially for the top companies and growing industries. As such, application processes can be quite thorough with a number of rounds, psychometric tests and assessment days.

At FDM, we offer an inclusive recruitment process, consisting of an online application form, phone interview, video interview, online tests and final stage interview at our assessment centre. Our application process focuses on your strengths and potential for the role, rather than previous experience or what university you attended. Read our blogs on strength-based interviews and education vs experience for more information.

To apply for a graduate programme, a university degree is a must-have. Some employers may ask for a minimum grade, such as a First-Class or Upper Second-Class Honours degree (a 1st or a 2:1), and some may even require this to be from a Russell Group university.

At FDM, our graduate schemes are open to all graduates from any university, with a Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2) or higher. We do not expect you to have prior work experience or any other qualifications.

Although graduate programmes include extensive training, they are paid jobs with full-time salaries – unlike an internship. The salary for graduate programmes will vary depending on various factors, including your geographic location, chosen field, previous experience and your company, however can offer competitive pay and plenty of opportunities for quick progression.

A great graduate programme will consist of excellent training courses with additional learning aids and mentors, as well as a supportive network to help you navigate the working world, and make sure you’re happy throughout.

FDM offers a number of support and development programmes to do just that. From our employee-led community discussion groups to virtual training sessions and webinars, our teams are with you every step of the way.

Yes, a graduate scheme provides you with the opportunity to kickstart your career in a competitive industry without any experience, and even land an entry-level position in some of the top organisations. It offers countless professional development opportunities, invaluable training, the chance to make new business connections and set yourself up for a successful future career. You may even secure a permanent position within the company.
