Traineeship overview and roadmap
The KPMG Technology and Business Traineeship Pathway, in collaboration with FDM, offers an alternative route for high school graduates in Sydney to embark on a rewarding career in technology.
This program is designed to provide successful applicants with the fantastic opportunity to learn and develop valuable skills. You’ll receive expert mentoring, coaching and guidance throughout, while gaining work experience and being paid for your efforts.
As part of the program, you will have the opportunity to work with many different people and technologies as you rotate through KPMG’s technology business units. Prior to each rotation, you’ll undergo a comprehensive 3-week training period to ensure you’re well-prepared. KPMG and FDM have collaborated to create learning materials tailored to support your journey through each stage of the traineeship.

Application and assessment process
It is very easy to apply for this program. Simply write a 300-word expression of interest essay explaining why you would like to join the traineeship and what excites you about it.
After you apply, FDM and KPMG will send you information to help you prepare for our assessment centre, which will be held between November 2025 and January 2026. We’ll keep you updated with everything you need.
The assessment centre consists of three sessions conducted via Zoom, taking about 2 hours overall. We’ll start with a welcome and information session, followed by two 20-minute interviews during which you’ll have the chance to
ask questions.
After the information session, we’ll assess your logical problem-solving skills in a short interview. The final interview, consisting of 5 questions, will focus on your strengths and motivations, ensuring the traineeship aligns with your goals. Successful applicants will be contacted by their recruiter about the next steps and all applicants will receive constructive feedback throughout the process.

- How do I know if the traineeship is suitable for me?

This is an opportunity that is open to anyone who is attracted to the idea of a career in tech.
Many people with no previous IT experience have joined KPMG and FDM, then gained knowledge in the field along their career journey. The program is designed to equip you with the skills for success and offer insights into a broad variety of technology areas within the workplace.
Requirements:
- You are located in Sydney
- You will be 18 years of age by the 1st of February 2026
- You must be in the process of completing an HSC certificate and interested in a career in technology
- You are an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia
- What academic background do I need?

To apply for the traineeship, you must be in the process of completing an HSC. STEM related subjects are not essential, but you should be able to demonstrate an interest in technology.
- What sort of IT skills will I need before joining?

No previous IT skills or experience are required to join the traineeship. FDM and KPMG will provide you with hands-on training alongside the training course to develop the IT skills you need to be successful.
The program will consist of 3 weeks of training, before a three-month rotation in one of KPMG’s technology business areas. The training has been designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge you’ll need to be successful on the next rotation. This way you can apply your newly learned skills straight away in a real work environment.
- How long does the program last?

The program is three years and at the end of it you will have achieved a certification in IT. You will also have further qualifications that can go towards your diploma, alongside the real work experience that you have gained.

Trainee experience
The FDM Trainee Experience Team ensures that our trainees are supported throughout their time at KPMG. The support provided covers the five pillars of our People strategy: Growing, Aspiring, Thriving, InTouch and Community. These have been developed to help FDM trainees reach their full potential by providing relevant resources, training and support.
We also host a variety of virtual events each month to connect with our people and ensure everyone feels a part of the FDM community. These events include learning and development webinars, wellbeing classes and social networking events.
Mentoring Program
The Mentoring Program matches FDM trainees with senior employees across the business based on their career aspirations. The initiative is designed to help you unlock your full potential and to provide support for long-term career development. The program is online, allowing matches to be made throughout our global organisation.
Online learning and development
Virtual training, webinars and discussions are available to all FDM trainees, as well as e-learning platforms including LinkedIn Learning and Intuition Know-How.
KPMG Buddy Program
You will be assigned a buddy in your first week of training. This will be someone who has been at KPMG for a couple of years, who can show you the ropes and help with anything day-to-day that you might need. You’ll have regular sessions with your buddy built into your schedule but can reach out to them at any time.

You will be training and working primarily in FDM and KPMG’s Sydney offices, located in Barangaroo. There may also be additional work from home options.
