Hygenus is a senior Technical Business Analyst with 37+ years of experience across the software industry and financial services. Following a brief career shift where he worked as a mathematics teacher at a London school, he joined FDM’s Returners Programme and landed his first assignment with a leading global insurance company.
He is a certified Scrum Master and Scrum Product Owner with extensive Agile experience. He’s worked as technical BA to model and specify complex application workflows and as an operations BA to model pure business processes in health and housing for stakeholder buy-in.
Experience is a premium
After joining FDM, Hygenus’ first assignment was initially contracted for six months but eventually got extended to 26 months. His story echoes many of our other Returner consultants who after upskilling in our Skills Lab, secured successful assignments with global clients. For most, it’s like they never left.
Speaking about his experience of getting back to the corporate world after some time away, Hygenus said, “In spite of being a certified scrum product owner and a certified scrum master, I found the training sessions on Agile methodologies and their applications to business analysis, refreshing and thought-provoking.
I was exposed to facets of Excel I would not have otherwise been exposed to. The icing on the cake is that at the end of the training, each returner has a shot at attempting PRINCE2, Scrum, and BA certifications, fully funded by FDM.
The financial industry awareness and the Excel training in particular, came in very handy during my first assignment and helped me easily orient myself on site.”
Work milestones
On his first assignment, Hygenus’ client company were exploring the opportunity to automate existing manual workflows to improve their organisational efficiency and to speed up response-times in risk servicing.
Over a 20-month period, he worked as the sole BA supporting two independent projects across London and Mumbai, contributing to an 80% success rate in automating manual workflows.
With 10+ years of experience using the industry-standard BPMN (Business Process Modelling and Notation) technique, Hygenus worked on the client’s flagship web platform designed to support an insurance broker’s end-to-end journey, from initial risk prospecting to the final placement using facilities and insurance partners.
The project started with a vision statement and a project mandate, with continuous stakeholder inputs and buy-in, where workflows were modelled in BPMN to describe the framework processes, and business rules were modelled in DMN and agile stories written in Microsoft ADO (Azure Dev Ops) to flesh out the finer details to facilitate development.
“I also designed a light-weight process, its accompanying documents, templates and AI prompts that would assist a user to systematically identify and document capabilities of any of my company’s application and align each capability to their TOM (Target Operating Model).”
Future prospects
Hygenus has now started a new role as Tech BA for a major financial services company, taking both his recent experience and FDM upskilling.
Speaking about this next career move he said, “I’d always wanted to apply my skills in the Finance sector. Thanks to FDM, it has made that fantasy a reality. The FDM machinery goes all-out to support its consultants succeed and thrive – I personally vouch for this.”
At FDM, our consultants like Hygenus have extensive experience across financial services, insurance and risk management.
